About

Austin Walker

My name is Austin Walker, and I’m a photographer based out of Arkansas.  I’m glad that you’ve found your way to MemoryBoxPhotos.com and hopefully you’ll be able to take the time to look around!  Though I’m based in Arkansas, I’ll travel wherever the job requires.

One client told me at the end of an awesome session that he expected me to be, “either an older creepy guy or a really old weird lady with a camera, and one of those jackets filled with camera stuff.”  I want to put your mind at ease.  I’m not a “normal, boring” photographer with the khaki jacket with all of the pockets.  In an effort to combat fear of potential awkwardness, here’s a list of 25 things about me.  This way, you know a little bit about me going into our shoot!

1. I used to be terrified of any outdoor creepy crawly.  It was to the point that one day, I ran into the house screaming in pain, because, “A BUTTUWFLY BIT ME!”
2. My first car was a white Chevy S-10. It used to be a fleet car for Terminix, i had to use Goo-Gone to get the label stickyness off. WORTH it.
3. In that car, I once rear ended a friend’s truck on the way to school. His hitch busted my front bumper, but neither of us cared, so we went to first period. My parents still dont know.
4. I drive over 400 miles a week, on average. Between normal “around town” trips, working in Little Rock, photoshoots, and speaking/DNOW’s I’m in the car a lot.
5. Playing right now on my iTunes is “Beautiful Disaster” by Jon McLaughlin.
6. I’ve played baseball, basketball, and most recently, football. I love sports, but was less than excellent at the latter two.
7. I also may or may not have taken hip hop classes in elementary school for a grand total of 3 weeks. Mom didn’t want me sitting around the house all summer. That lasted 3 weeks. Why so short? She came to my 3rd class and saw how “awesome” I was at it, and told me I could quit if I wanted to.
8. If I could have an unlimited limit gift card to any non-photography store (we wont count amazon.com either…that’s cheating), it would be to Target…probably.
9. I would LOVE an iPad, but if we’re talking about just as a book reader, I can’t get over how much I like the look of a full book shelf. We’ll see how this pans out.
10. On that note, I have LOTS of books that I haven’t had time to read, I just couldn’t resist buying them.
11. I liked The Daylights before they were cool.
12. If I had to pick one book for everyone to read before graduating college, it would be The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.
13. I once got a remote control car stuck in my sister’s hair…I’ve also broken her arm by throwing her off of a piece of furniture in elementary school.
14. I have of late become addicted to good coffee, and I’m always open to suggestions.
15. I’ve been to 8 schools: Oklahoma Christian Schools, Will Rodgers Elementary, Edmond Central JH, Classen School of Advanced Studies, Desoto Central Middle School, Desoto Central High School, Benton High School, Ouachita Baptist University.
16. I graduated high school in January and spent the rest of the time-until I had to come back to get ready for college-living outside of a squatter camp in South Africa.
17. I Tweet a lot when I drive alone. Probably because there’s no one to talk to on the road.
18. I love a good glass of Sweat Tea.
19. Five Dollar Footlongs saved my life. I love those things.
20. My favorite TV show is The Office, Lost, and 24. Yes, I’m a walking statistic.
21. I would rather teleport than fly.
22. I busted my head open in elementary school, and broke my back my junior year of high school.
23. I want a Jeep Wrangler. Bad.
24. Hammocking is the coolest.
25. More often than not, I’m an ESFJ.

People tend to ask, “How did you get started in photography?”  Thats a kind of tricky question, but here is my try for a Reader’s Digest version.  Ever since I started being interested in Creative Arts at LifeChurch.tv in Oklahoma, I’ve been drawn to the visual side of things.  In middle school and high school, I toyed around in photoshop, and created my own graphic design projects just for fun.  When it came time to sign up for classes my sophomore year in high school, I decided to take photography.  I always thought it would be cool to develop our my own film!  Turns out, the teacher didn’t know how to do that, we just plugged our cameras up to her printer and printed them out.  That was somewhat of a dissapointment, though that class has proven to be a huge influence in my life.  Unfortunately, that has to do with friendships, and nothing to do with photography.  I did, however, learn that photography was something that was very therapeutic to me.  I began using my parents’ camera to take pictures in the park, etc.  In Fall of 2008, I decided, “You know what, I really do enjoy photography, I’m going to invest in a decent camera.”  The rest is history yet to be made.
