So I’ll be the first to tell you, I’m not a veteran photographer! There are a lot of times when I think about business, workflow, or photography in general that I’m not too sure what the right thing to do is. I’m constantly looking for different resources to perfect my craft, but a lot of times they’re too expensive. I have a HUGE list of workshops I’d LOVE to attend and be a part of. But I can’t afford them. About 4 months ago, a friend of mine showd me the PHOTOVISION DVD’s, and I thought it was too good to be true. Every two months, they mail you a DVD with 6-8 photographers showing you a little bit about their process, their place, or their post production (yes, 3 P’s, I’m still a preacher at heart).

So here’s the deal. They’re on sale right now. Usually, PHOTOVISION is $149 for a subscription, but, if you click this link and type in the promo code PVFAN you can get the subscription for $39. When my photographer friend hooked me up with PHOTOVISION, I thought he meant $39 for each DVD, and I was hesitant. Then I realized it was $39 for the subscription for the entire year!

Is it the same as going to a workshop and getting hands on experience and question answer time? No. Do I take something from each photographer that applies directly to me, my style, and my needs? No. BUT, is it a great resource, even just for the sake of being able to see other photographers in action? Absolutely. Is it a great resource, well done, making use of incredible photographers that are well known and well established from the photography community? Absolutely. In the most current DVD, some of the featured photographers are Sarah Petty of the Joy of Marketing, Julie Klaasmeyer, and Zach and Jody Gray.

Again, it’s not going to take you to the top of the industry, but it will give you little nuggets of insight that can save you from mistakes, inspire you to create, and in the end, it will accomplish its goal and purpose: to help you in your craft and become a better photographer.

So again, here’s the link for the PHOTOVISION DVDs and be sure to use promo code PVFAN to get the $39 price!

Still not sure if it’s “legit” enough for $39? Here’s a list of some of their sponsors…

- Canon
- Marathon Press
- RadioPopper
- White House Custom Colour
- Westcott
- PPA
- WPPI
- Animoto

Josh and Kristy got married in Olive Branch, Mississippi on August 14, 2010! They’re an incredible couple, and I can’t wait to post the rest of their photographs. For now, though, this and their engagement photos!

And today it began. The very last semester of my undergrad collegiate career. Where did it all go? Does it always pass this fast? It’s so weird to move in and know that half of my best friends from last year are not. Guys like Jeff Harmon, your presence is and will be missed! But enough with the sob story.

Part of the excitement of moving back to school is the community of dorm life. Something as simple as an XBOX 360 controller can bring together community like nothing else.

At first, I wasn’t going to bring back my XBOX to school, to try and be more studious with everything, but that lasted all of 0 days of class. SO, this afternoon once classes ended, I found myself sitting on the couch, with 7 other guys, in an intense battle with Taylor. Man vs. Man. Arkansas vs. OU. Junior vs. Senior. A battle to the death. As luck would have it, I ended up winning by 1 point on a 2 point conversion with no time left on the clock. However, at the end of the day, no matter who won, it didn’t matter, because community is back. But I did win. I have one more semester before “dorm life” in my lifetime ceases to exist as I know it.

I graduate in December, with no idea what life looks like after that….other than I’ll be doing ministry and making photographs.

where does time go.

I don’t post a lot of teasers for memoryBOOTHS, but I just wanted to throw out there that on Saturday, this happened. Some of you remember my tweet from that night. Well, about 6 minutes later, it came to fruition.

More to come Thursday, and a wedding post for Connor+Kate to follow!

This may not be exciting news to anyone else, but I’m really pumped about it. About a week ago, I ran out of the business cards I had to hand out if anyone asked while I was shooting a wedding. Heartbreaking I know, no more free lunch drawings. Right before I went to order more of them, I realized I kind of wanted to redesign my card. Everything else about my business (my website, my blogs, my albums) is very crisp and low on the frill-o-meter…everything but my cards. So I started to get to work on designing them, and hated them all. And now, the perks of dating a graphic designer. I asked Emma to design me a new card. She did a great job and had some awesome options, enough to make the desicion process pretty difficult. In the end, though, I’m REALLY pleased with the results, I hope you are too!

Thanks Emma for the awesome design, and thanks White House for getting them to my house the day after I ordered….as always.

A few months ago, I got an email from Paula (Kate’s sister) asking about wedding photography. I wasn’t sure what to think, since Paula isn’t the bride, but Kate, Paula and I all met up at San Fransisco Bread Company to meet each other and talk details. I didn’t realize until walking into the store, “Oh…..dang. I didn’t tell them what I’d be wearing or anything.” Fortunately, they were ordering right as I walked up! Luckily, by the end of that meeting, we were getting along great and really clicking. A few weeks later, I got to meet their mom and Connor at Community Bakery (the best).

Connor and Kate met at Harding University when Connor ran a music venue. He said every once and a while, they’d have people come and watch a movie on the projector and hang out, and the rest is history! I’m really excited about their Little Rock wedding next weekend! It’s going to be an all day affair, and LOTS of fun! But until then, here’s their engagement pictures!

Connor and Kate rule. More on that later.

Luke Smith is a senior at Robinson High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. We’ve been trying to meet up to take senior pictures non-stop, and it never worked out. Fortunately, he’s OBU bound, and came into town to register for classes. We took the opportunity to go and hang out and get some really great shots. I cant wait for him to be on campus, he’s a great guy with an amazing heart for God. He’s going to do big things, I can’t wait.

So, here is a handful of the shots we got. Enjoy, comment, share!

Since May of 2008, I’ve worked with the students of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock. Every year, we have an event called GLOBAL VILLAGE, in which we highlight a mission field to raise awareness in our students of things going on worldwide. We deck out our student space, give them passports that get stamped, have a lot of interactive parts throughout the space, and then have service. In the service, we usually skype with a missionary in the field, and then break up into groups of 150-250 and go to different stations. Our adults have been working since like August on this, and it’s an incredible thing. If you’re in Little Rock next sunday or the one after, come by Fellowship Bible Church and stop by the FSM Garage! I’ll be around there somewhere if you want a quick tour. This week was China, next week is Nigeria, and then the final week is actually Memphis, to get our students excited about our mission trip to Memphis this summer!

Here are some shots from this morning.

Welcome to China…a page from the passport all students receive.

Over 200 students gather in groups of 3-4 to pray for the body of believers in China.

Other students have discussion groups and learn about what China’s demographics are like.
